Responsibility

Preventing injury and harm to our employees, sub-contractors or anyone else who may be affected by our activities is of critical importance to us.  We have a structured risk-based approach to managing safety, health, the environment and quality and have an improvement strategy and management framework that is applied by all our divisions. The aims and values of our strategy are described below.

Who we want to be

  • Recognised as the safest company in our industry by our employees, our customers and the community

What we want to achieve

  • A fatality free business
  • A leader in occupational safety
  • A leader in the operational safety of our railway

How we get there

  • Each of us has to make an unconditional commitment to safety - each day

What we believe

  • Safety is the gateway to being in business
  • Each of us has personal responsibility for our own health and safety and the environment
  • Everyone in the rail industry must work together on safety
  • All jobs can be done safely
  • Nothing is more important than the safety of our employees, the travelling public, customers and the environment in which we operate

How management supports the plan

  • We provide committed leadership and direction
  • We put in place the necessary organisation and resources
  • We monitor and audit performance

How we develop our capability

  • Fourteen principles set out our management philosophy and procedure which are available to all employees
