Applications and Benefits

• Rails - full rail testing facility including aluminothermic welds. Rail life can be prolonged by regular testing and intervention and recently inspected rail defects can be measured and managed. Balfour Beatty Rail Technologies is fully track competent and can offer this site management. As a quantified example, a suspected non-compliant aluminothermic weld would normally be changed, cost circa £4,000. A NDT may prove the weld to be perfectly serviceable, cost circa £500.
• Switches and Crossings - specialist tests and sentencing
• On Track Machines and Plant - testing of weldments, forgings, castings and fabricated units can offer extension of working life by facilitating pre-failure intervention.
• Structures and Lifting Equipment - provides NDT safety checks to structures following strike incidents or unusual loading. Periodic safety checks required for cranes, gantries, platforms and any other SWL lifting equipment are undertaken, providing the user with equipment confidence and safety enhancement.
