Balfour Beatty Rail AB, which operates in the rail infrastructure business in Sweden, announces today that the company has received a significant order containing three separate contracts from the Swedish Rail Administration Banverket for maintenance work of 1270 km railways in the Gothenburg area, Västra Götaland region *).
The maintenance contracts for the lines in Västra Götaland are the largest operation area that Banverket has so far contracted. The awarded contracts are on turnkey basis with functional commitment and enhanced collaboration with the infrastructure owner. The contracts duration are five years (with a scheduled project start on September 1st 2010) including an option of one year and one further option for one year. In the selection of Balfour Beatty Rail, Banverket has especially valued good reference ratings for ongoing maintenance contracts and how Balfour Beatty Rail has planned for the maintenance works, preventive andcorrective maintenance of track, OHL, Signalling and Telecom, accident management and snow clearance.
The total order value for the new contracts are approximately 970 MSEK (92 MEUR).
Today, Balfour Beatty Rail AB has several ongoing contracts for railway maintenance works in Sweden. Our objective is to deliver a complete service commitment, which extends over the entire lifecycle of the railway plant. Current ongoing maintenance contracts includes; Mälar Line (280 km), Holmsund-Vännäs-Bastuträsk (170 km) and Österlen lines (180 km)
Balfour Beatty Rail AB’s, Head of Business Unit Maintenance, Carola Alzén commented, "With these contracts, we will demonstrate that we are a reliable maintenance contractor. We have now a very important process ahead of us in establishing new site offices and recruiting over 100 new employees.
