RT16 Southern Zone S and C Renewal (Gravesend)
The works included the design, build, installation and commissioning of two number concrete crossovers with MHT rail in two weekend (44 hour) possessions. The works were on the London side of Gravesend station, on the down/up north Kent lines.

The existing cross-overs, on timber, were installed in the late 1960s and had become life expired. Three months prior to our works starting, the maintainer had to impose speed restrictions on the existing layout, due to its poor condition.

The Permanent way, signalling, points heating and electrification design were carried out by sub-contractors, Scott Wilson Railways, on behalf of Balfour Beatty Rail Track Systems group. In the past, Scott Wilson Railways and the Track Systems group have produced successful designs for switch and crossing renewals, which the customer has been pleased with.

The works were undertaken in conjunction with the Dartford Area Re-signalling schemes and the future signalling requirements were incorporated into our design. The layout incorporated Schwihag roller slide plates, which are lubrication-free integrated roller-slider plates. This allows friction-free movements of the switch blade and ultimately reduced maintenance costs.
