Currently one of the largest construction projects in Europe, the new £3 billion Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport will cater for 30 million passengers a year when it opens.

Balfour Beatty Rail Projects, in joint venture with Balfour Kilpatrick, is responsible for the rail and tunnel systems for the extension of both the Heathrow Express and the Piccadilly Line railways from the existing Central Terminal Area Stations at Heathrow, to the new airport terminal which will open in 2008.

Capabilities:
  • Track design and installation in the Piccadilly Line and Heathrow Express extensions (PiccEx and HexEx)
  • OLE design and installation in HexEx
  • M&E design and installation in rail tunnels, associated shafts and surface buildings
  • Tunnel ventilation system design and installation
  • Fit-out of shafts including access and egress stairs, and support steelwork for ventilation equipment
  • M&E design and installation of the station and passenger interchange area
  • M&E design for the Track Transit System, an automated people mover
