Chester Event Monitoring
Balfour Beatty Rail Technologies Ltd is proud to have installed the signalling datalogger and asset monitoring software at Chester Signal Box for Jarvis on behalf of Network Rail.

Chester is a large free-wired interlocking and needed life extension works. Our SA-380 Datalogger and Asset View analysis software have been chosen to provide Network Rail with the benefits of continuous asset monitoring. This will help to manage trains in and out of Liverpool, Manchester and Holyhead Port.

The SA-380 Datalogger is a new generation of datalogger, combining the latest touch screen and networking technology with tried and tested logging principles. It is the first datalogger on the market to be awarded full Network Rail approval to the standard RT/E/S/11304. Compared to other systems which may require large equipment racks, the SA-380 integrates all functions within the logger, including UPS and communications, and all 1540 ‘critical’ relays in Chester interlocking are monitored by just five shoebox-sized units.

Asset View is a software system to analyse and evaluate data obtained from the event recorders to provide user information which assists in improving safety and delivery performance within the rail industry. It provides a comprehensive suite of analysis functions, detecting inconsistencies such as points slow to move, intermittent track circuit failures and SPADs. It also provides graphical replay facilities.

Use of Asset View and the SA-380 Datalogger at Chester will bring benefits to the railway, considerably increasing Network Rail’s opportunity for pro-active intervention and asset maintenance, leading to cost reduction and improved reliability.
