Balfour Beatty Rail, in joint venture with VR-Track, Finland's largest railway construction company, was awarded the contract for the supply and installation of the trackwork on the Botnia Line (Botniabanan) in Sweden.
For Balfour Beatty Rail's part of the joint venture, construction work is being undertaken in an internal 50/50 joint venture between Balfour Beatty Rail Projects abd Balfour Beatty Rail AB, the Swedish subsidiary of Balfour Beatty Rail.
Running between southern Nyland and Husum, the work forms the first stage of the new Botnia Line along Sweden's Baltic coastline. The line is unique in that it has been designed to handle both heavy freight trains and high-speed passenger trains. Covering a total length of 110km (single track with passing loops) including various viaducts and tunnels, the contract represents over 50% of the Botnia Line's proposed overall total track length. |
