Balfour Beatty Rail, a member of Normetro Consortium, was awarded on a turnkey basis for the design, supply, installation, test and commissioning of the fixed installations for the Light Rail Transit System in the Metropolitan Area of Porto.
The scope of the works includes the construction of 33 traction substations 15 kV / 750 V DC, contact line over 60 km track length (7 km in tunnel), 68 stations of which 12 underground, EM works (i.e., escalators, fire fighting, ticketing), and the Control Centre (PCC).
The whole system came into service in April 2006, and the completion of the Operation and Maintenance period is March 2008.
