Balfour Beatty Rail was awarded two contracts for the capacity expansion of the Dublin City Rail Network in Ireland. Balfour Beatty Rail is responsible for design, supply, installation and commissioning of traction power supply and overhead line equipment.

The power supply contract consists of five (5) new substations and two (2) new Track Paralleling Huts (TPH). The existing substations and TPHs in the 1500 V DC system will be upgraded with new protection equipment and intertripping system. An intertripping cabling system will be installed along the 50 km double-track in order to be able to trip the complete system in case of emergency shut downs.

The overhead line contract comprises of refurbishment of the catenary system and adoption of the layout at each station platform to fit the new trains.
