Group Managing Director, Rail Engineering and Services
Manfred is the Balfour Beatty Group Managing Director responsible for Rail Engineering and Services. Manfred is an industrial engineer who started his business career in 1979 in the aircraft industry where he worked for 11 years on various multinational projects in different functions. After a four year period within a head office function, he moved on to Adtranz as Director of Supply Management of its railway rolling stock business based in Berlin. In 1998 he took over the running of their Fixed Installations activities.
Having joined Balfour Beatty in October 2000, as a result of the company's acquisition of Adtranz's Fixed Installations business, he was the Managing Director for Balfour Beatty Rail Power Systems, based in Germany for the last six years.
Manfred is now based out of the Balfour Beatty Head Office in London.

Managing Director, Balfour Beatty Rail International
Tiziano started his business career in 1974 in the high voltage transmission line and power supply industry where he worked for 24 years on various multinational projects within the project management area. In 1998, within the same company, he moved to the rail transport field as a Project Director of one of the most valuable European transport project in Portugal; in 2002 he joined Balfour Beatty as a result of the company’s acquisition of the Rail Electrification Project Business of ABB in Italy.
Tiziano has an extensive international experience having lived abroad for many years from Africa, Middle and Far East before moving back to Italy in 2005 where he took up the role of Head of Operations within the Italian division.
Tiziano is now the Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Rail International. |
Eckard Martin |

Managing Director, Balfour Beatty Rail Germany & Austria
For more than 20 years, the Eckard’s occupation has been associated with railway technology. After studying electrical engineering and graduating with a doctorate, he was active as a Development Engineer and Project Manager in the engine-building and electrical engineering facilities in Henningsdorf, Germany.
In 1982, he assumed the management of the R&D department where he was particularly in charge of railway locomotives and motor cars. With the take-over of the plant by AEG and the subsequent foundation of Adtranz, Eckard assumed senior positions in development and production as well as in plant and corporate management. From 1999, he was in charge of the Railway Infrastructure division.
In October 2000, Eckard was appointed Managing Director of formerly named Balfour Beatty Rail Power Systems.
Eckard is now the Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH based in Munich which includes the German, Austrian, export and signalling businesses. |

Managing Director, Balfour Beatty Rail Projects
A Civil Engineer, Richard spent the first 20 years of his career in the construction industry involved in large projects for John Laing and Bovis before moving to Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering. He has spent the last 10 years within the rail industry, having worked for Amey Rail before returning to Balfour Beatty in 2005 to lead the London Underground Services business focused on the delivery of track renewals across the Underground network. In late 2007 Richard was appointed as Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Rail Projects. He is responsible for integrating Rail Projects and the London Underground Services businesses to create a new Balfour Beatty Rail Projects that is an even stronger UK business with a clear focus on the London market and a growing international presence.

Managing Director, Balfour Beatty Rail Services
Peter began his career with Balfour Beatty as a graduate Civil Engineer in 1990. Originally assigned to the Major Projects Division within Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering he worked on many large infrastructure projects including the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and M25 motorway where he was Project Director responsible for the design and construction. Peter joined Balfour Beatty Rail in early 2007 as Managing Director of the Infrastructure Services Division where he led the business successfully through the "6 to 4" challenge by Network Rail. He is now responsible for merging the track renewals business with the rail plant business to better serve the needs of his key customer, Network Rail.

Managing Director, Balfour Beatty Rail Systems & Solutions
Ian is a mechanical engineer who started his business career in 1980 with GEC’s steam power plant business. Time spent in production engineering roles over an eight year period led to the management of a succession of product business units in the company. In 1996 he became responsible for Alstom’s large steam turbine factories in the UK.
Ian joined Balfour Beatty in 1998 as Managing Director of the Cruickshanks and Lounsdale Electric high voltage and medium voltage substation businesses. This experience in the power industry led to his appointment in 2000 as Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s transmission and distribution business, the formerly named Balfour Beatty Power Networks. He is now Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Systems and Solutions, based in Derby.
