InnoTrans 2006

Balfour Beatty Rail at InnoTrans 2006 : Total service from a single source

The international trade fair Innotrans was a great success for Balfour Beatty Rail. Situated in Hall 25, our stand set the standard proving that we can offer our customers the multi-disciplinary projects that we are known for in addition to new and innovative products and services.

The stand highlighted three of the major multi-disciplinary projects that we have recently worked on; the high-speed line between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt in Germany, the light rail transit system project "Metro do Porto“ in the ancient city of Porto, Portugal and the on-going rail network links to the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport, London. Also on the stand were a varied range of products that we can offer our customers globally.

On the 19th September Balfour Beatty Rail held a press conference in the press area of Messe Berlin. Led by Group Managing Director Manfred Leger, topics included an update of ongoing projects across all businesses in addition to informing the audience of the success of the multi-disciplinary projects that visitors could discover more about on our stand. Mr. Leger then invited all attendees to attend the reception on the Balfour Beatty Rail stand that evening.

The cocktail reception on Tuesday evening was opened by Chairman of the Board of Directors, Christoph von Rohr, who welcomed our guests, visitors and colleagues from a number of rail businesses to the Balfour Beatty stand.  Mr von Rohr congratulated everyone involved with the organisation and for creating such a successful environment in which to showcase our products and services. After Balfour Beatty CEO Ian Tyler thanked everybody for coming the reception began, providing employees and guests with the opportunity to meet one another, discuss potential partnerships and the trade fair as a whole.

The "career point round-trip“ was a success each day when a group of university graduates visited the stand to understand a bit about our business and gain some insight into what Balfour Beatty Rail can offer graduates.  Another daily tour of visitors included those specifically interested in innovative items. On our stand they were were able to see the brand new generation of protection and control devices for DC traction networks for Mass Transit Power Supply solutions and the new bay controller which combines digital control and protection relays offering full protection for medium voltage switchgear in AC traction substations. They were also shown the new tunnel safety system which was on display with a datalogger which monitors train movements and tracks any problems with the signalling system as they develop.

The new UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Tom Harris, accompanied by the Director General of the Railway Industry Association (RIA) Jeremy Candfield, visited our stand on Wednesday afternoon. After being introduced to various people they made a tour of the stand to view our products and project information.

On Thursday morning Dr. Eckard Martin, Managing Director Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH Germany, presented at the Dialog Forum organised by UNIFE and Messe Berlin. The presentation was about Balfour Beatty Rail offering services as a general contractor using the example of the high-speed line between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt.
