Operating on a national basis from our offices in Sheffield, Balfour Beatty Rail Projects’ Track Unit has over 35 years’ experience in permanent way projects, from patrolling and inspections to installation and maintenance works.
We undertake work on both main lines and in depots, on maintenance, on renewals and new build schemes, such as the new Traincare depot at Northam. There, we installed 4km of plain line and 10 S&C units, track on concrete, inspection maintenance track and track in the washer buildings.
As well as conventional track work, the Track Unit undertakes innovative specialist works such as glued ballast consolidation and swing nose crossing conversions.
With our in-house technical and construction resources, we have a flexible operation that is able to react quickly to our customers’ requirements from design stage through to installation.

- Numerous private sidings works for the petrochemical, quarries, aggregates, docks and cement industries
- Tram permanent way installation and renewal works on Sheffield Supertram and Manchester Metro
